whilst my initial reaction to your thoughts surrounding the trump election, DEI, and how it affected Wolfenstein: the new colossus was very negative, ultimately you were correct, the extreme kneejerk reaction to the election of arguably one of the worst presidents in america's history was if anything counterproductive to valid criticisms of his administration, and in addition wolfenstein by nature of it's setting had the perfect chance to do that criticism right, but instead, like you imply, they probably restarted the game like halfway into construction and half-assed their refocusing on the story especially. ruining what could've been one of the best shooter games ever.

Theory: Could it be that Guts couldn't hurt him because of the hatred in his heart? The whole theme of Berserk is him changing over time. Could the finale be that Guts learns to absolve himself of the hatred and stress and finally be able to face Griffiths? The whole thing ties into the Idea of Evil. If Guts succumbs to hatred, which is a by-product of Evil, does that mean Griffiths is immune anything that has been filtered through the idea of evil, because it's within the godhands domain? Also isn't SK supposed to be the archetype of a past hero that was taken over by his hatred and is a lesson for Guts to avoid that path? Doesn't Guts state to Rickert that he could not truly hate Griffiths?

Starship troopers is a perfect case study in optics (meaning how you are passively perceived from the outside.) Your intent as an author means absolutely nothing if the way that you presented your thesis makes the audience believe you're saying something else. If my story's core thesis is "oranges taste gross," and proceed to write how 99% of the characters love oranges, and overwhelmingly talk positively above oranges.... The audience is going to think that the one character who hates oranges is the bad guy

I actually felt slightly disappointed by the conclusion. I think a better ending would have been the detectives realizing that the cultists were right, and getting devoured or driven mad by the supernatural. The story kept implying all that stuff was real, to the point it was somewhat of a letdown that it wasn't.

As someone who's a Conservative-Libertarian, I can safely say that the Socialist Librarians are not welcomed in our party.

New Collossus makes me a Natzee out of spite alone.

I feel like that the devs of New Collossus wanted to vent their daddy issues instead of making a good game. It's no wonder that it took a somewhat subtle experience and made it a propaganda piece. Very nice.

I thought the trilogy was awesome. In fact, I think the Wolfenstein reboot is far superior to the Doom reboot. Also, I dont think a game or film needs to be consistent in tone. Weird can work. The games are just fun for the sake of fun. Its super dumb and super over the top, but for fun. And I didnt really pick up on any woke ideaology in the game. Nothing like the trash we are seeing in EVERYTHING nowadays. (ffs.) Now youve got me scared to go back and play Colossus, which I was planning to do before I saw this video. P.S. Mick Gordon sux.

Biting criticism of Communism by people that historically didn't have a good time under that ideology shouldn't be a point of contention... Especially with that penchant some have for replacing their individual identity with the national identity. But its a chance to talk about a great game for over an hour, and that's awesome.

Despite this films obvious shortcomings, I do still find myself listening to the audio commentary(s) from time to time. Rob Walker's, in particular, gives insight into the creative budding of heads between him and Doug, as well as the input and role of the CA producers during filming. It's bittersweet to say the least. Rob speaks very highly of the producers while being candid about his and Doug's faults and is quite vocal about the parts of the film he wasn't happy with. It shows that he, at the very least, wasn't delusional and thinking that him, Doug and co. had made some kind of masterpiece. Plus, even for a bad product, having creator insight can deepen your appreciation for something while still acknowledging it's not very good. It kinda makes you go "oh, so THAT'S what they were going for" All in all, Rob's commentary track made him and Doug sound both better and worse than the "ChangeTheChannel" crowd would have one believe. It definitely strengthens the "Walker brothers were incompetent doofuses" narrative while kind of obliterating the "Walker brothers are self-obsessed, narcissistic sociopaths" one. Maybe that's just me being naive, though. Bare in mind, the "you can't take these people at their word" rule of thumb Loli established should also apply to Channel Awesome themselves. It's entirely possible another, non-crazy person has a less positive outlook on the filming experience. One more thing before I shut up. Rob talks positively of Linkara being incredibly persistent and a great sport, willing to put up with filming difficulties more than anyone else and even telling a story of how Doug was getting ready to pack up and quit without finishing filming and Linkara gave him some big, presidential speech about perseverance. Make of that what you will. To wrap this up, I just find the CA drama so damn fascinating. But, as entertaining as it is to an outsider, I also genuinely hope these goofballs eventually find peace, assuming they haven't already.

That Gamergate is such a major issue with these people to the point of driving how they deal with things is doubly funny given that movement had nowhere even close to the amount of skeletons and wrongdoings that they have. And, like the Critic, GG is still ticking along just less centralized without that name, while it's smearers including the TGWTG people wallow in hated obscurity, the ones not in prison that is.

Just want to share my experience and how repalyable the game is I have only recently played it and fisnihed my third and final playthrough today 1st:physical l supercop who did lots of drugs and alcohol messed up a lot and got the worst ending in the game 2nd: Intelellectual moralist and luckiest man on earth was the best detective did like everything right and won so many low skill checks in the game it was insulting 3rd: Empathetic communist cop, really imaginative, did really crazy stuff failed a lot, but I did side quests and got better. I got sober and learned all the secret lore about the pale and world and did every side quest on the game helping the community and became best friends with Kim getting the best ending and feeling satsified that it was my final playthrough Also my take of the politics was no matter what side i picked it sucked and failed in a way but when the phasmid appears it shows that beyond the pale (figuratively and literally) its possible to discover a new way of living and to help each other that escapes the cyclical failures of the present. But then again the apocolypse is coming so who knows. 😅

Good video, I just disagree on a point. Final Fantasy can be pretty political, talking about nobility and medieval society, pollution and corporations... Choosing not to make a political statement in a game is a political stance even, our personnal views on the world and society permates any creation we makes. And that's ok I think. But what truly went to shit in 2016 was the arrogance and resulting death of subtlety. A generation of upper-class neoliberal believing in the end of history but now confronted by divergent opinions in the real World. And they doubled down, spoiling the writing of all western entertainment, I am not even safe from the "culture war" from the other side of the Atlantic. Anyway, thank you for the summary on the last games, I'm glad I avoided them.

I'm so glad I finished the video before commenting. I was going to say that Old Blood and New Order were the pinnacle of the Wolfenstein franchise. Those games are so thought provoking and such an incredible experience. So, when I read your title, I immediately got defensive. But I watched and you had nothing but glowing things to say about them. Now I never got around to New Colossus or Youngblood. I am so thankful for that now. I too am so sick of DEI bullshit and the addition of modern-day progressive politics in every single narrative in any video game these days. Fuck Sweet Baby Inc. Fuck the people within the industry who are ruining my favorite medium. Excellent video, 10/10.

The party dynamics on the boat are actually thematically interesting. Am I the only one who sees direct parallels between guts leading his new "group" and Griffith in the golden age? Guts now has his own dream now and is building up a devoted family around him willing to sacrifice themselves for his dream... It would be MORTIFYING if the whole story ends with Guts repeating Griffith's mistakes. Though it would be VERY thematic

He is a white supreacist, anti-semite, anti-gay (where did that gay fed theory come from?) who speaks in nazi rallies. as an outsider of US politics i indeed noticed the political statements of WTNC. Even if it was all over the player's face i do think that is not wrong, i mean what is wrong about talking about the racist, white supremacist, background of XX century's US? KKK had 4M members until the 30's, and Rip was a white upper-middle class from the south so him being a OTT bigot isn't so misplaced? TNC plot was made in a 60s, 70s explotaition film fashion, so when i played i understood that the game is intentionally being stupid in some form. The gameplay was a mess tho, broken stealth, fucked up perk system, and the gunplay is a weird mix-up of Doom 2016 and a cover shooter

The more I watch of the berserk storyline, the more I realize the full influence of it in the making of Elden ring. Things I thought were nods to lord of the rings lore is in fact, imo, more of a berserk nod.....talking about that big ass golden tree ahha
